I've been watching an elderly gentleman fight the falling leaves in his yard.  He is intense, determined and well armed.  I've seen him use three diffent sized rakes (small, medium and large) depending on the number of leaves in the yard.  He seems determined to not let a leaf take up residence on his lawn.  I think he sits in the house and watches out the window, dashing out every time he sees one fall.  Perhaps he even catches one from time to time before it lands.  At first I just found his actions amusing..then I started thinking he was being rather obsessive with the whole project.  He was in the yard when I went by on the way home yesterday..there were just a few leaves on the lawn and he was out to get them before the neighbors noticed.  After I drove by I thought about the old guy and wondered if leaf chasing is all he has to do and if staying ahead of them gives him a purpose..makes him feel useful.  Now I'm beginning to feel sad for him.  I've never really paid much attention before but I'll bet that if I look I will see him on the sidewalk this winter catching snowflakes before they land on his perfectly cleaned walkway.  Good for him...

I stepped outside of myself last Saturday night..some at the party thought I had stepped outside of my mind.  We went to a Haloween dress-up party...it was a lot of fun.  I was an inbred, deranged man who lives in the woods and slaughters college students when they have car trouble in the middle of nowhere.  I scared the crap out of a couple of people.  I met one little boy at the door..he backed up about three steps and fell down..what a blast!  Poor kid will have nightmares for weeks..but isn't that the whole idea?  One guy put on a basketball jersey and went as a basketball player.  Oh, really scarry!  OK..perhaps that is more in tune with his alter-ego....I guess that means I'm more in tune with the flesh-eater.  I'm beginning to scare myself....

Hello…My name is Gina Bayne, and I have the extraordinary
privilege of being asked by Rick D. to host a guest blog. Although I haven’t
lived in the UP for the last 9 years, there isn’t a day that goes by that I
sincerely miss the UP way of life.

I am currently attending Davenport University as a Senior
pursuing my Bachelors in Paralegal Studies. I will be attending Cooley Law
starting in 2010, and am almost overwhelmed at the possibilities that await me.
I previously worked for the State of Michigan as a Correction Officer, leaving
that life in 2006. I am still perplexed by the functions of what I call the
“Department of Corruption”, and the inner workings of what the “outside world
society” does not realize of what actually goes on inside the walls. You would
be shocked at what your tax dollars pay for. That being said….I am looking for
people to voice their thoughts and ideas concerning these issues on my Facebook
page, Ginalea73. You can find me there. What do you think is going on? What secrets do you
want to know?

Glad to meet all of you…look forward to lively discussions. You
may email me directly at ConservativesUniteBlog.com
. I will do my best to respond quickly to your comments and questions. Thanks!

I have a new grandchild!  Little Annie came into this world a little after 8pm last evening.  Actually, I'm not so sure I should be calling her "little" .. she came in at 9lb 9oz ... I'm thinkin that's a pretty big baby.  I have not seen her yet but I am hoping to get an e mail today..mommy and baby are both doing well.

If you read my last blog you no doubt expected to see a "guest blog" here today.  Well, it seems my guest is AWOL today.  I have not been able to reach her so I'm guessing something came up that prevented her from contributing today.  That's ok..this gives me a chance to share a big moment..my daughter just called from Texas and she is in the delivery room.  My grand baby Annie should see the light of day some time in the next few hours.  Once she takes her first breath I will have been honored with two grandchildren this year.  My grandson Kaden was born on January 30th..can't believe he is almost 9 months old already.  What a joy he is.  Luckily he lives very close and I see him often.  My little Annie in Texas is a different story though and that makes me sad.  I don't like the idea of having a grandchild that I will only see a couple of times a year (at most)..but I can't really change that.  One thing for sure..I will treasure every minute I have with her...good luck Annie, can't wait to meet you!

Beginning on Monday the 26th I am going to be trying something new on this blog.  I have chosen a couple of people I know to contribute from time to time as a "guest blogger"....the guest will promote his/her blog to Facebook friends and I will track how many people are reading.  Should be a fun experience for all concerned.  I hope you enjoy the variety of opinions.  You are welcome to send me an e mail with your comments.  Have a great weekend!  Read Gina's thoughts right here on Monday...

You may not often think about importance of free speech.  I'm sure you don't go through your daily grind thinking about the historical significance of the free press in America.  Because of my profession, I think about these things a lot!  Like most free speech advocates I am appalled at the arrogance of the Obama administration in it's unprecedented attacks on FOX NEWS.  I've never seen anything like it and frankly, it chills me to the bone.  Believe me when I say that this attack is not "off the cuff" or random.  It is a part of an overall plan to guide the media and silence those who refuse to be guided.  There most certainly is a concerted behind the scenes effort/plan to rid the media of conservative views.  FOX and talk radio are the prime targets as Obama's minions seek to snuff out those who would question their socialist policies and programs.  This is scary stuff folks!  This is no longer the America I grew up in.  Stay tuned...while you can.

I've been out sick for the past couple of days...I think I had the Bovine Flu.  Couldn't have been Swine Flu because I'm still alive.  Actually, it wasn't all that bad..but I did what the experts are telling us to do..stay home.  We seem to have a lot of sick people around here (in more ways than one).  I hope you are feeling well..I'm gone on Friday so have a nice weekend.

Tuesday evening..for a brief moment I once again enjoyed the game of baseball.  It felt good.  As a child there were few things more important to me than baseball.  In the summer I was on the ball field all day, every day.  I was always the kid trying to get enough guys together for a game.  More often than not it was three on a side or some such thing.  I played on two Little League teams at the same time..so I was busy.  I loved everything about playing the game and I loved my Tigers.  The only pro athlete I've ever idolized is Al Kaline.  He was the most complete baseball player I've ever seen.  He did every aspect of the game very well..he understood the importance of base running..throwing from the outfield..advancing runners at the plate...with Kaline more often than not the advance came as the result of a base hit.  My son and I had the pleasure of meeting Al at a bank appearance in Escanaba many years ago.  Unfortunately, I look at the game now and just don't see any players that impress me.  Most of today's players are good a one thing and suck at the rest.  I have not followed the Tigers or Major League Baseball for many years...I do enjoy watching the Little League World Series games..kinda reminds me of my youth.

I fell asleep last night listening to the Packer/Viking game on the radio (Magic 97).  I woke up just after the game ended and the post-game show came on.  People were calling into the show to vent...and I must say...there are a lot of Packer fans that need to get something meaningful in their life.  One guy called up and said he was physically sick to his stomach when he saw Brett line up against the Packers.  Life is way to short for that...don't ya think?
